Vertical Mill gear wear

The wear of gears in Vertical Mills is a serious damage to the machine itself. The following are the analytical insights given by SBM technical engineers:

First, how to reduce gear wear of Vertical Mill

(1) Adjust the correct position between the gears;

(2) maintaining the amount of lubricant;

(3) Replace the old lubricating oil in time;

(5) Reduce or prohibit the gear from overloading.

(1) Manufacturing aspects

The gear profile of the Vertical Mill drive gear is involute tooth shape. The main defects caused by the standard installation are: eccentricity, pitch error and tooth shape error. These defects make the gear pair easily cause other faults during operation. However, since these factors are determined before leaving the factory and cannot be changed, they can only be strictly checked and accepted according to relevant standards at the time of purchase.

(2) Installation aspects

According to the relevant literature, the coincidence degree, head clearance and backlash, modulus of the meshing gear have an important influence on the working performance of the gear, and the coaxiality error between the axis of the motor main shaft and the pinion gear during the installation process, The parallelism error between the pinion axis and the large gear axis exceeds the error range, the flank clearance and the tip clearance are not equal in the full tooth width, and the coincidence degree becomes small, which affects the correct meshing of the gear teeth. Shock and vibration are generated in the middle.

(3) Lubrication

The gear transmission gear pair is manually lubricated. An oil groove is opened in the gear guard portion directly above the gear pair meshing zone, and a gap for lubricating oil is opened at the bottom of the oil groove. The operating personnel periodically fills the lubricating oil, and the lubricating oil passes through the cotton yarn in the middle of the gap. Drip into the gear meshing area to complete the lubrication task of the gear pair.

This type of lubrication is prone to the following problems:

1 oil injection is not sufficient, no oil film can be formed between the gear pair mating surfaces, thereby forming dry friction;

2 A large number of floating objects and small particles in the air are attached to the cotton yarn to block the oil filling gap, causing the gear pair to lack oil.

3Because the lubricating oil is dripping at the point where the gear is out of the meshing zone, the oil can be brought into the meshing zone after one rotation of the gear. Most of the lubricating oil is sucked to the bottom of the gear guard under the action of centrifugal force, and drops to the gear after vibration. On the secondary side, it is smashed onto the gear cover and then falls to the bottom of the gear guard. It is difficult to form an oil film and form dry friction.

The above reasons lead to poor lubrication of the teeth, accelerated wear and vibration.

(4) flank clearance

When the flank clearance is larger than the standard installation position, the vibration of the gear is also caused. When the current pair of teeth is about to be disengaged, the latter pair of teeth have not yet entered the correct engagement position, so the tip of the front pair of tooth drive wheels is at the driven wheel. The tooth profile slides over and the driven wheel performs a decelerating motion; when the latter pair of teeth enters the meshing, the driven wheel suddenly accelerates, causing an impact, causing the gear to vibrate. The increase of the flank clearance can also lead to the inability of the tooth surface to form, the formation of elastic fluid lubrication, and can also accelerate the gear wear;

(5) sealing aspect

The Vertical Mill gear pair is a semi-open gear transmission system with a simple protective cover and a poor working environment. The air in the work site contains a large amount of floating objects and small particles. These floating objects and small particles can easily enter the working surface of the gear teeth and cause abrasive wear, especially when the connecting bolt of the Vertical Mill discharge end is loose. The slurry will enter the meshing zone as the Vertical Mill rotates, causing abrasive wear of the gear pair and accelerating tooth surface wear. The tooth surface wear reduces the tooth thickness and increases the tooth side clearance, causing the gear to vibrate.
